[DESPREZ DE BOISSY (Charles)]. Lettres de M. Desp. de B*, av - Lot 8

[DESPREZ DE BOISSY (Charles)]. Lettres de M. Desp. de B*, avocat en Parlement, sur les spectacles. Paris, Butard, 1769. In-12, blond calf, ornate ribbed spine, title-piece, gilt fillet framing the covers with fleur-de-lys in ecoinçon and gilt arms in center, red edges (period binding). Third edition, revised and enlarged by the author, the first to include (pp. 407-444) the beginnings of a bibliography of works concerning the theater, although Quérard points out that this section was only added to the 1774 edition. The binding with the ARMS OF THE CARDINAL DE MAZARIN and a preliminary leaf indicate that this was a prize book awarded to a student of the Collège des Quatre-Nations, founded after the cardinal's death. Heads worn, upper jaw partially split, corners worn, some rubbing, rare spotting in places, otherwise a good copy. (Barbier, II, 1257; Quérard, II, 531; Cioranescu, XVIIIe, n° 23747).
