Amsterdam, Marteau, 1745. In-12, brown basane, ornate smooth spine, title page, red edges (period binding). Rubbed, jaws cracked, tail cap torn off, rare foxing. Uncommon. Son of actor François Juvenon, known as La Fleur, La Thuillerie embarked on a career in comedy at the age of sixteen, in 1666. On April 27, 1672, he married Louise-Catherine, daughter of actor Raymond Poisson, known as Belleroche. An actor with a sulphurous reputation, he played at the Hôtel de Bourgogne and was a member of the first troupe of the Comédie-Française. Under his name were performed: Crispin précepteur, comedy in one act, in verse (1679); Soliman, tragedy (1680); Hercule, tragedy (1681); Crispin bel esprit, comedy in one act, in verse (1681), but these plays were rightly attributed to Abbé Abeille, and La Thuillerie was given this epitaph: "Ici gît qui se nommait Jean, / Et croyait avoir fait Hercule et Soliman."
