ALBER (E.) & BADE (C.). L'Alcoran des Cordeliers, both i - Lot 205
ALBER (E.) & BADE (C.). L'Alcoran des Cordeliers, both in Latin and in French, that is, a collection of the most notable blunders & blasphemies of those who have dared to compare Sainct François to Jesus Christ. Amsterdam, aux dépens de la Cie, 1734. 2 vol. in-12, red morocco, ornate smooth spines, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, interior roulette, gilt edges. The illustration consists of a title-frontispiece, a folding genealogical table and 20 in-text figures, all engraved in intaglio by Bernard Picart. Erasmus Alber's Alcoranus Franciscanorum, whose present translation by Conrad Bade was published in 1556, is a collection of the most blasphemous extracts from the "Liber conformitatum", a work famous for the absurdities it contains, in which its author, Bartolomeo degli Albizzi, sought to highlight the similarities between the life of Christ and that of St. Francis (Brunet I, 152; Cohen 5). A fine copy in contemporary morocco.
