"Hermant (Jean), curé de Maltot (arrondiss. de Caen), born in Caen in Feb. 1650, died in Oct. 1725. He had undertaken a Hist. générale du diocèse de Bayeux, which was to be divided into 3 parts, but as success did not meet his expectations, he published only the 1st part, which gives the history of the bishops of Bayeux. The last 2 parts of this work were to deal with the Hist. des abbayes et des prieurés, giving a general notice of all the benefices of the diocese, the hist. des villes, des bourgs du même diocèse, avec les fondationsdes ordres et des maisons religieuses qui y sont établies. The Caen library possesses part of these mss., the materials for which were collected by Petite, canon and official of Bayeux. "Frère II, 77. Two 19th c. engraved views have been added.
