LANGLOIS (Eustache-Hyacinthe).
Rouen, [Legrand], 1823. In-8 printed bradel boards. Complete with 6 plates, two of which are enhanced. "100 copies of this work have been printed on jesus vellum paper (most of them pitted, having been bound too freshly) and 100 on ord. vellum paper. Some of these copies contain 2 col. plates - Langlois has not confined himself here to giving curious details of the disaster of Sept. 15, 1822, but describes with scrupulous fidelity the monuments of this basilica, on which he publishes a host of instructive details drawn from the best sources. This work was originally intended as a report to the King, which had been requested from Langlois by the archbishop of Rouen, Mgr de Bernis, but following his habit, Langlois, indulging in his subject, gave it the scope of a vol." Frère, II, 150. Uncommon work, here on large paper. Some old soiling to the boards and a few foxing marks, otherwise a very good and rare copy. Bookplate René Herval. Bookplate JM.
