[THIESSÉ (Léon), BALLAND (Eugène-Amédée) & FOULON]. Lett - Lot 463
Rare and beautiful set. "From April 5, 1819, the subtitle became: ou Correspondance politique et littéraire. The article on spectacles was written by Bert. The 11th volume was sent to Minerve subscribers to complete their subscription. Semi-periodical, like Lettres champenoises, in a different spirit but with no less wit. These letters," said La Minerve, in good comradeship, "are not Norman, because they don't squeeze between yes and no. They are French, because they titillate the heart. They are French, because they titillate the mind, and they will make a fortune because they are French.' were denounced to the Tribune nationale for an article on the expiatory ceremony of January 21, and a ruling by the Seine Court of Assizes ordered the destruction of the issue containing this article [see beginning of Volume X]. A sequel was planned under the title l'Eclaireur, journal politique et littéraire, but the project was never carried out." Hatin, 336. Spines slightly faded, some light spotting. (Barbier II, 1281.) Ex-libris of La Germonière. Bookplate JM.
